A manufacturer cut downtime by 22% with real-time OEE dashboards

A discrete manufacturer connected its MES and ERP to D23 and gave every shift supervisor a live OEE dashboard — no data team required.

The challenge

Plant managers were running on gut feel and end-of-shift paper reports. OEE data lived in the MES, scrap data lived in the ERP, and maintenance logs lived in a spreadsheet. Nobody had a single view of equipment effectiveness, and by the time a trend became visible it had already cost the plant days of lost production.

How D23 helped

  • Connected the MES (ClickHouse), ERP (Postgres), and maintenance spreadsheets to D23 as unified data sources.
  • Built real-time OEE, availability, performance, and quality dashboards using Superset's native time-series charts.
  • Used D23's AI text-to-SQL so supervisors can ask plain-English questions like "which line had the most downtime last week?"
  • Deployed the dashboards on shop-floor screens with auto-refresh — no login required for read-only views.
  • Hosted entirely in the manufacturer's own AWS VPC for data residency compliance.
For the first time, a supervisor on the floor can see exactly what happened on the previous shift before the handover meeting even starts. That alone has changed how we run the plant.
